Have you ever heard the term "A Match made in Heaven"? Well, that's how I feel about my Border Collie, Rhett! I truly believe that Rhett and I were destined to be together. For about 9 years, I have wanted a Border Collie. Back around 1992, I had the honor of attending one of Janice DeMello's seminars in San Diego. There I saw an absolutely gorgeous and brilliant red and white Border Collie named Juice, Ch/OTCH Hob Nob Jump Start. After training and showing for many years in agility with my Shelties, my husband and I decided that the time was right to acquire a Border Collie. My friend, Carol Schiefer, with whom I had attended Janice's seminar all those years ago, had a darling little Border Collie, Hob Nob Status Symbol aka "Little Stat", that she recently acquired from Janice. She suggested that I talk with Janice about training and Border Collies.
Well, to make a long story short, I was able to get a puppy from Janice. Rhett aka Hob Nob Gone With The Wind, is coincidently, a grandson of that beautiful red dog Juice that I met years before! Rhett is everything I ever wanted in a dog. He is beautiful, smart, honest and sweet. What I love the most about Rhett is his willingness to please and his intense devotion to me. Unlike my Shelties, who have that "what's in it for me" mentality, with Rhett, I tell him something once and he never forgets! It's like he "knows" exactly what I am saying and exactly what I want. He loves his toys and gets those "Border Collie eyes" when we train. He has some funny characteristics, also, which just endear him even more to me...like, when I change his water bowl in the morning he gets all excited, goes into his Border Collie crouch, and excitedly "chases" the water as I throw it onto the lawn! Agility is his passion, as well as mine, and he gets all revved up as I say "Ready" and we run the course! But, the trait I love most of all, are his signature hugs...which came into play the other day at the vets office. The technicians had completed his exam and brought him up to the front office to see me. Rhett scooted into the room on his belly, found me, jumped in my lap, and wrapped his arms around me tightly, just like a little kid needing his mommy.
I love my boy Rhett and I am looking forward to many years of training, competing and most of all, having fun together as a cohesive team "made in Heaven"... Stephanie Cullier CA
